Federal Employee Long Term Care Insurance

The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) provides coverage to help pay for the costs associated with care when enrollees require assistance with daily activities or have severe cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Most Federal and U.S. Postal Service employees and annuitants, along with active and retired members of the uniformed services and their qualified relatives, are eligible to apply for FLTCIP coverage when the program is not suspended.

In most cases, employees must be eligible for the FEHB Program to apply for FLTCIP coverage, regardless of whether they are currently enrolled in FEHB. Eligibility is the key factor. For annuitants, FEHB eligibility is not required to apply for FLTCIP coverage. However, certain medical conditions or combinations of conditions may disqualify some individuals from being approved for coverage. To determine eligibility, individuals must submit an application.
